About DMICE

The Department of Medical Informatics & Clinical Epidemiology is a department in the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine. The department is also part of OHSU's Biomedical Information Communication Center (BICC) and is housed in the BICC Building on the University's Portland campus. The Department Chair is William Hersh, M.D., Professor, and the Vice Chair is Cynthia Morris, Ph.D., Professor.

The mission of DMICE is to provide an academic environment for teaching, research, and service in the areas of medical informatics and clinical epidemiology. Medical informatics is the field concerned with the acquisition, storage, and use of information in health and biomedicine. Clinical epidemiology is the application of the logical and quantitative concepts and methods of epidemiology to problems (diagnostic, prognostic, therapeutic, and preventive) encountered in the clinical delivery of care to individual patients.
